PLX Ball Mounted Hollow Retroreflectors

PLX Ball Mounted Hollow Retroreflector products for laser tracking are the most accurate in the industry and can significantly improve the performance of all laser tracking systems.

They are now available in a unique Break-Resistant configuration as well as in a range of sizes and materials for specific applications. All PLX BMRs are equipped with our standard protected silver coating for the highest durability, reflectance and distance.

PLX Ball Mounted Hollow Retroreflectors are compatible with all laser tracking systems.

Stainless Steel Ball Mounted Hollow Retroreflectors

Now available in 2 centering accuracies: within .0005″ and within .0001″.

PLX BMRs can significantly improve the performance of all laser tracking systems. They are manufactured in three different diameters: 1 1/2″, 7/8″ and 1/2″. Should the optical elements of your BMR ever become damaged, PLX can replace them with units of comparable accuracy and alignment to the original at a modest cost.

Barium and Strontium Tungstate-Molybdate Crystals

New nominally pure and neodymium doped Barium tungstate, Strontium tungstate and Strontium molybdate single crystals are now available:

Crystals Eksma Optics

  • Ba(MoO4)x(WO4)1-x, 0<x<0.01
  • Sr(MoO4)x(WO4)1-x, 0<x<0.01
  • Sr(MoO4)x(WO4)1-x, 0.99<x<1

New Barium and Strontium tungstate-molybdate single crystals feature higher Raman gain as compared to KGW or CaCO3 and relatively higher thermal conductivity as compared to a Ba(NO3)2.

Barium and Strontium tungstate-molybdate single crystals are grown and provided with cut along a-direction. Active elements do not require precise positioning since stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) threshold slightly depends on the crystal orientation relative to pump polarization (within a few percent) and minimum threshold is reached at E||c. In this case, the polarization of the pump and stokes pulses are parallel to the optical axis (c-axis).

The crystals are water-insoluble and durable. Available sizes and shapes of active elements are rectangular up to 10 x 10 x 100 mm or with cylindrical cross-section up to dia 10 x 100 mm.

Applications:

  • Raman converters – new crystals extend the capabilities of the Raman devices in addition to commercially available Ba(NO3)2, CaCO3, KGW crystals, since new crystals have different values of the Stokes shift and allow to obtain a laser radiation at the other wavelengths
  • Raman lasers, including self-Raman generation
  • Laser pulse compressors based on stimulated Raman scattering effect

Other Choices for Stimulated Raman Scattering

KGW Crystals

Thermal effects are significantly smaller in KGW. This along with the high damage threshold make the crystal an excellent candidate for power scaling.

Barium Nitrate Crystals

Ba(NO3)2 has the highest Raman gain coefficient among other SRS crystals. However, the thermal lensing is particularly strong in this material.

Bare Fiber Adaptors with Magnetic or Spring Clamp

Bare fiber adaptors provide a simple and effective way to use unterminated fibers with commercial receptacles.
Simply strip, clean and cleave your fiber and insert into the bare fiber adaptor.

They are recommended for power meter connections, temporary system repairs or wherever a quick fiber connection is required. OZ Optics has recently improved the bare fiber adaptor design to now use a magnetic clamping mechanism. The new design gently yet firmly holds the fiber in place without harming soft acrylate coatings, and is even easier for operators to use. The magnetic clamp applies no stress to the fiber, which makes it ideal for PM fiber related measurements including extinction ratio (ER), polarization dependent loss (PDL) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD).
Bare fiber adaptors with the spring clamp accommodate up to 900 micron OD jacketed fiber. Bare fiber adaptors with the magnetic clamp accommodate 250 micron to 400 micron OD jacketed fiber. 900 micron OD tight buffer and custom jacket sizes are available.

Features:

  • Easy to use
  • Low cost
  • Reusable and easy to clean
  • Magnetic clamp applies no stress to the fiber
  • Compatible with PM fiber (magnetic clamp version only)
  • Variety of connector types (FC, SMA, LC, ST, SC, E2000)
  • Variety of fiber sizes available
  • 900 micron tight buffer versions available

Applications:

  • Briefly connect to Light Sources, Power Meters, OTDRs, Extinction Ratio Meters, and a variety of other equipment for testing and measurement
  • Test unterminated fiber and fiber spools
  • Installation and repair work
