So what’s the dirt on soil analysis?

Current approaches to soil management techniques may be accurate, but the process is cumbersome for many farmers. To properly analyze soil samples farmers need to collect the samples, send the samples to an agricultural extension lab and then wait for their results to come back. In many cases wrong soil fertility decisions have been made, threatening the risk of soil degradation, before the results have been returned.

This application note explores how Si-Ware Systems’ NeoSpectra spectral sensors are shinning light on soil management techniques.

“Miniaturization of near-infrared (NIR) spectrometers has advanced to the point where handheld instruments could provide reliable and affordable means to serve this purpose. In this application note, we demonstrate the possibility of using the NeoSpectra spectral sensor for portable soil chemistry measurement.”

Get insight into our customer AgroCares’ approach to create a handheld portable scanner, that incorporates the NeoSpectra-Micro spectral sensor, for the identification and quantification of nutrients in soil.

  • The application note concludes, “These results clearly demonstrate that the spectra of soil samples measured with the NeoSpectra spectral sensors provide suitable analytical data to accurately measure the soil chemistry in various locations around the world…”

Super Fast Response Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier

In DWDM transmission systems the adding or dropping of a transmission frequency through an Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier can introduce transient behaviour where the signal strength through the amplifier overshoots or undershoots, disrupting data transmission. For conventional EDFAs the transient time period during which over/undershoot occurs is typically about 100 microseconds.

Our partner OZ Optics Limited, a world leading supplier of fiber optic products for existing and next-generation optical networks, now presents an Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) that features sub-microsecond transient suppression time with less than ±0.3dB overshoot. This is an improvement in transit response time of over two orders of magnitude.

Designed to be use for traditional C-band wavelengths, this Super Fast EDFA amplifies signals within a 3.2nm window, enough to amplify four adjacent channels within in a DWDM transmission system. The amplifier can be configured for any 3.2nm sub-band within the C-band wavelength range. Contact us for complete details.

Logo Gentec Electro Optics Off-the-shelf power meters

Our partner Gentec Electro-Optics, Inc. is glad to present its line of off-the-shelf power meters especially designed for integration and OEM applications. The already popular INTEGRA series of detectors with integrated meter are now easier to choose and faster to order.

Logo Princeton InstrumentsHigh-Throughput NIR Spectrometers

Acton LS series Lens SpectrographsThe Acton Series LS-785 is a high-throughput, lens-based spectrograph ideal for near-IR spectroscopy. It features a fast f/2 optical system with proprietary AR-coated lenses for optimum NIR transmission. At an aperture of f/2, the LS-785 is perfectly matched to .22 NA optical fibers and achieves up to 4x the throughput of a standard f/4 mirror-based spectrograph. With its fast AR-coated compound lenses from our Acton Optics group and a custom gold-coated grating, the LS-785 provides the highest throughput and best imaging commercially available for the NIR. The LS-785 also includes micrometer-controlled grating rotation, allowing users to access the NIR between 750 nm and 1100 nm.

The LS 785 features include:

  • High-transmission, AR-coated elements
  • Excellent image quality
  • Micrometer-controlled grating rotation
  • Micrometer focus adjustment
  • Seamless integration with high-performance Princeton Instruments cameras
  • Powerful, 64-bit LightField software
